Relentless Hunger (Poem)
He looks around, As the world drowns in a gilded flood: Yawning wide as if to taste the earth’s very marrow, The rivers, seas, lakes, every liquid shudders- their tongues curl inward, slow to a crawl yet disappearing- vanishing! Nothing left for the rest of us. Didn’t we bring this onto ourselves? The land gasped- thirsting for water, cracked and breathless. Once rich with life, now crumbles like ancient parchment. The amber venom slithered through the field, lighting everything in its path. One by one, every flower, every petal Bows, begging for forsaken mercy Devouring what the gilded flood left behind. A merciless hunger. All he could do was pick up the ashes of near tomorrow And let the guilt slowly burn in his hands.
